Mississippi State Fires Head Coach Zach Arnett

Arnett Fired After Less Than One Season

Mississippi State University has fired head football coach Zach Arnett after less than one season on the job. The move comes after the Bulldogs suffered a 51-10 defeat to Texas A&M on Saturday, dropping their record to 4-6 overall and 1-6 in SEC play.

Leadership Change Cited

In a statement released by the university, Mississippi State athletic director John Cohen said that the decision to fire Arnett was made after a "thorough evaluation" of the football program. Cohen said that he believes a "change in leadership is necessary to move the program forward."

Arnett was hired as Mississippi State's head coach in December 2022, replacing Mike Leach, who passed away suddenly in December 2021. Arnett had previously served as the Bulldogs' defensive coordinator.

Mississippi State will now begin a search for a new head football coach. The university has not yet announced a timeline for the search.
