Plant cells, on the other hand, possess chloroplasts—the organelles responsible for photosynthesis. These cellular structures contain chlorophyll, the green pigment that absorbs sunlight and converts it into chemical energy. Chloroplasts are essential for plants to synthesize their own food from inorganic compounds.
