Vietnam Service Medal

A Prestigious Award for Service in the Vietnam War

Honoring the Brave

Established by Executive Order 11231 on July 8, 1965, the Vietnam Service Medal is a military award bestowed upon members of the United States Armed Forces who served in Vietnam during a specific period.

The Vietnam Service Medal is awarded to service members who performed duty in Vietnam between July 4, 1965, and March 28, 1973, for at least 30 consecutive days or for a lesser period if injured in combat. It recognizes their honorable service and sacrifice during the Vietnam War.

Similar to the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal holds significant importance in the military history of the United States. It symbolizes the courage and dedication of those who served their country during this tumultuous period.
