Rangnick Trainer Bayern

Ralf Rangnick emerges as favorite for Bayern Munich managerial role

Current Austria manager a leading candidate to replace Hansi Flick at the Allianz Arena

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany reports that Rangnick is now the frontrunner for the Bayern job

Ralf Rangnick has emerged as the leading candidate to become the next manager of Bayern Munich, according to reports in Germany.

The Austrian national team coach is said to be the preferred choice of Bayern's hierarchy, who are on the lookout for a new manager to replace Hansi Flick at the end of the season.

Flick announced in April that he would be leaving Bayern at the end of the campaign, and the club have been linked with a number of potential replacements, including Erik ten Hag, Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino.

However, it now appears that Rangnick is the frontrunner for the job, with Sky Sport Germany reporting that he is "the Wunschkandidat" (the desired candidate) for Bayern.

Rangnick, 62, is a highly experienced coach who has managed a number of top clubs in Germany, including Stuttgart, Schalke and RB Leipzig.

He is known for his attacking style of play and his ability to develop young players.

If Rangnick is appointed as Bayern manager, he will be tasked with leading the club to their first Bundesliga title since 2019.

He will also be expected to challenge for the Champions League, which Bayern last won in 2020.

Rangnick's first match in charge of Bayern could be the Bundesliga opener against Borussia Monchengladbach on August 13.
